Art and Culture

The Department of Language Art and Culture, Himachal and Nav Yuvak Mandal, Bhalawog jointly organised a play ‘Flight of Innocence’ based on Oscar Wilde’s story ‘The Nightingale and the Rose’ at Gaiety Theatre. The magic of the story was brought alive on stage by Youth Club Bhalawog in the form of a play that touched hearts of all spectators and forced them to contemplate on the real meaning of Love which can not be seen in the modern times. Just like all of Wilde’s short stories this play too embodied strong moral values told with strong acting of the actors.  It is the tale of a love struck poor boy, Robin who had to provide his lover Florence a red rose in order to win her heart. A nightingale overhearing his pain from a solitary Oak tree is filled with sorrow and admiration all at once, and decides to help the poor young man. She journeys through the night seeking the perfect red rose and finally comes across a rose bush. But alas, it had no roses to offer her. After a long search the nightingale found a rose but that was in vain. Even the nightingale sacrificed herself for both of them, but with that too they couldn’t make their love successful. The tragic end of the play left the audience sad and spellbound. The script was executed in heart touching manner and the message came across straight. Spectators found its presentation good.
